Carolyn Marvin was charged with ‘disorderly conduct’ for protesting delivery robots taking jobs.

Carolyn Marvin was arrested and subsequently charged with disorderly conduct after blocking the path of an Uber delivery robot and refusing to move. Marvin explained her actions during an interview with Philadelphia’s ABC 13, stating, “I know they’re taking the jobs of human delivery workers and so, I have been protesting them whenever I saw them by standing in front of them and preventing them from going forward.”

Upon police arrival, officers requested that Marvin step aside to allow the robot to proceed. When she refused to comply, officers detained her and placed her in handcuffs. The incident was captured on video and has since attracted significant media attention.

Delivery robots have become a frequent sight on the streets of downtown Philadelphia, sparking considerable backlash. This is not Marvin’s first encounter with the technology; earlier this year, one robot was kicked over in Center City. Growing concern has emerged regarding how autonomous systems, such as robotaxis, delivery robots, and AI agents, are affecting employment, particularly for lower-skilled workers.
