For several years, applications such as Google’s NotebookLM, Hero, and more recently Adobe Acrobat, have empowered users to generate personalized audio content, often resembling podcasts, from various existing materials like documents, daily schedules, and articles. Now, Spotify is integrating this functionality further, enabling users to access these custom-created audio experiences directly within its platform, albeit with the requirement of specific programming tools for setup.
The company has detailed that individuals proficient with developer tools like OpenAI’s Codex, Anthropic’s Claude Code, or OpenClaw can leverage Spotify’s new Command Line Interface (CLI) tool, currently in beta. This tool facilitates the creation and seamless import of such personalized podcasts into Spotify, making them readily available for later consumption.
In a recent blog post, Spotify articulated the growing trend and user demand, stating, “People are already starting to use their agents to create personal audio that guides their day: from summaries of class notes before an exam to briefings of what’s on their calendar. And they’re asking for a way to listen to it on Spotify, where they already listen to everything else.” This highlights the desire for a unified listening experience for both public and private audio content.
These generated podcasts will be conveniently located within the user's personal Spotify library, ensuring easy access. However, it is important to note that this content remains private and is not discoverable or accessible to other Spotify users.
To begin utilizing this innovative feature, interested users are directed to the tool’s dedicated GitHub page, where comprehensive instructions are provided. The process involves logging into their Spotify accounts through a web browser to establish the necessary connection.
Once set up, users can craft specific prompts, such as, “Build me an audio session that dives deep into the history of the World Cup with details about key players, where it’s been held, and what I should know about the games this year.” They can then instruct their AI agent to generate the podcast based on this prompt and save it directly to their Spotify account. A unique link to the Spotify listing for their newly created podcast will also be provided.
