SandboxAQ Raises $450 Million to Enhance AI Platforms
Originally reported bypymnts
SandboxAQ has successfully raised over $450 million in a Series E funding round aimed at advancing its large quantitative models (LQMs), which assist businesses in harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to address scientific and quantitative issues. The company, which emerged from Alphabet in 2022, has now garnered more than $950 million in total investments since its independence, as stated in a press release on April 4, 2025. Among the latest investors are industry giants Nvidia and Google, along with BNP Paribas, Horizon Kinetics, and Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates. SandboxAQ's quantitative AI platforms are currently employed across multiple sectors, including biopharma, chemistry, materials science, cybersecurity, and financial services.  According to Olivier Osty, head of corporate and institutional banking global markets at BNP Paribas, AI, and advanced computing are significantly transforming financial services, and the bank looks forward to collaborating with SandboxAQ to create innovative solutions that blend AI and quantum technologies. Chris Hume, SandboxAQ’s senior director of business operations, highlighted the potential of merging AI with quantum computing, noting its far-reaching implications for financial services and beyond. He explained that understanding and modeling quantum interactions can lead to the development of more effective predictive models. By integrating algorithms with existing classical computer hardware, better outcomes can be achieved. Originating in 2016 at Alphabet, SandboxAQ was spun off in 2022 to focus on providing AI and quantum computing solutions independently. The company aims to differentiate itself from others like OpenAI by employing unique approaches, such as utilizing quantum physics algorithms on graphics processing units, thus paving the way for advancements in computational technology.
