OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Unveils Plans for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5
Originally reported bytheverge
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has shared new details about the company’s upcoming AI models, GPT-4.5 and GPT-5. In a post on X, he acknowledged that OpenAI’s current product lineup has become complex and stated that the company aims to simplify its offerings.  He emphasized their goal of creating AI that “just works” without requiring users to pick specific models. GPT-4.5, internally called Orion, will be OpenAI’s last non-chain-of-thought model, following which OpenAI aims to unify its AI systems to make them more efficient and intelligent across different tasks. Altman explained that the company is working towards merging its o-series models with GPT models, ensuring that AI can utilize all available tools and adjust its thinking process accordingly.  When GPT-5 is released, it will integrate OpenAI’s o3 technology instead of being offered as a separate model. OpenAI had previously hinted at o3 in December and later introduced o3-mini in January. Regarding access, free ChatGPT users will have unlimited chats at a standard intelligence level, while Plus subscribers will get a higher level of intelligence, and Pro users will experience an even more advanced version. Altman did not specify exact release dates for GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 but suggested they could arrive within weeks or months. In other developments, Elon Musk recently proposed a $97.4 billion bid to acquire OpenAI’s nonprofit arm. However, OpenAI’s board of directors reportedly plans to reject the offer.
