Google has unveiled Gemini Spark, an innovative "always-on" AI agent designed to streamline daily tasks by handling communications and scheduling automatically.
Introduced at Google I/O 2026, Gemini Spark represents Google's entry into the burgeoning AI agent space, following the industry buzz generated by platforms like OpenClaw. This persistent AI assistant is engineered to perform a variety of functions, from drafting emails and generating continuously updated study guides to proactively monitoring credit card statements for unexpected subscription charges.
Underpinning Gemini Spark's capabilities is the newly launched Gemini 3.5 Flash, allowing the agent to operate tirelessly in the background, 24/7, utilizing virtual machines on Google Cloud. While it seamlessly integrates with Google Workspace applications such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, Google is also extending its reach to third-party platforms. This expanded connectivity is facilitated by the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard enabling AI models to interface with external systems and data, with initial integrations including popular services like Canva, OpenTable, and Instacart.
Looking ahead, Google plans to empower Spark with the ability to interact with local files directly through the Gemini app on macOS later this summer.
