Google declared on Monday that its Gemini application is extending its personalized, Nano Banana-powered image generation capability to a wider user base. As of today, this feature, which was previously exclusive to Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, is now accessible at no cost to all eligible users across the U.S.
The introduction of Nano Banana-powered image generation within Gemini's Personal Intelligence feature was initially unveiled by Google in April. This innovation empowers users to generate images that inherently mirror their distinct interests. Essentially, Gemini can produce visuals based on its comprehension of a user's preferences and likes, eliminating the need for explicit specification within the prompt. This is achieved by Gemini leveraging data from connected Google accounts, including services like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search.
To illustrate, a user can now simply request, “Create an illustration of me and my favorite things,” rather than needing to articulate, “Create an illustration of me and my favorite things, such as coffee and baking.”
Furthermore, Gemini possesses the capability to retrieve actual images of the user directly from Google Photos, thereby negating the requirement for manual photo uploads.
Google first launched the Personal Intelligence feature earlier this year, making it broadly accessible to all U.S. users by March. The company has since extended this functionality to include users in India and Japan.
Personal Intelligence operates as an opt-in feature, providing users with control over which applications Gemini can access. Once activated, it becomes the default setting for every prompt; however, users retain the ability to deactivate it at any time through a new toggle located in the Tools menu.
In related news, Google also revealed several forthcoming updates for the Gemini app last month. These enhancements include a new “Daily Brief” feature, a refreshed user interface, integration with the AI video model Gemini Omni, and the introduction of a personal AI agent known as Gemini Spark.
Significantly, Google's AI chatbot Gemini achieved a milestone earlier this year by exceeding 750 million monthly active users (MAUs), further solidifying its prominent standing within the artificial intelligence landscape.
