SpaceXAI has unveiled its newest model, Grok 4.5, marking its first major release since the company's public listing a few weeks prior.

In a blog post published on Wednesday, SpaceXAI described its new offering as a versatile "workhorse" designed to automate a comprehensive range of tasks that the artificial intelligence sector aims to streamline, including coding, application development, administrative and clerical duties, research, content creation, and other standard knowledge-based activities.

Furthermore, Grok 4.5 is touted to achieve these capabilities with enhanced cost-effectiveness, with SpaceXAI claiming its model possesses “twice greater token efficiency” compared to other prominent models. Should this efficiency translate effectively into real-world applications, it would offer a significant competitive edge for SpaceXAI, given the increasing concerns among AI consumers regarding token expenditure.

On Wednesday, the company also released benchmark metrics, which indicated Grok 4.5's strong competitiveness against leading models from SpaceXAI's rivals, though it didn't quite achieve best-in-class status.

On his social media platform X, a subsidiary of SpaceXAI, founder Elon Musk drew a comparison between Grok 4.5 and Anthropic's Opus, an LLM specifically engineered for handling intensive and complex tasks.

Musk stated in an X post, "Based on strong positive feedback from customers in our beta test program, @SpaceXAI will make Grok 4.5 available to the public tomorrow. It is an Opus-class model, but faster, more token-efficient and lower cost."

He subsequently added, "Our internal assessment is that Grok 4.5 is roughly comparable to Opus 4.7, but much faster. The combination of capability, faster speed and lower cost is what makes it competitive.”

SpaceXAI has priced its new model at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, a pricing structure that appears highly competitive, provided Grok's actual capabilities align with the company's assertions.

In comparison, Opus 4.7 carries a cost of $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. OpenAI, another key player, offers tiered pricing for its various model versions: Sol, its premium offering, is priced at $5 for input tokens and $30 for output, while Luna, its most economical option, costs $1 for input and $6 for output.

This week marks a significant period for AI model introductions, with OpenAI also slated to launch GPT 5.6, its newest and most potent model, on Thursday. The release of this particular model had faced prior restrictions from the Trump administration due to perceived security implications. OpenAI has characterized GPT 5.6 as its “strongest model yet.”
