ByteDance has reportedly put a hold on its global launch strategy for a new artificial intelligence video model, according to information published by The Information.

The Chinese technology firm, widely recognized as the parent company of TikTok and a minority investor in its U.S. spin-off, introduced Seedance 2.0 in China this past February. Short video clips produced by the model, including a notable segment featuring Tom Cruise in a confrontation with Brad Pitt, quickly achieved viral status but also attracted substantial backlash from Hollywood.

While one successful screenwriter asserted that the footage signaled, “It’s likely over for us,” production studios promptly dispatched a barrage of cease-and-desist letters to ByteDance. Disney’s legal representatives went further, accusing the company of a “virtual smash-and-grab of Disney’s IP.” ByteDance responded by pledging to implement more robust intellectual property protections.

The company had originally intended to roll out Seedance 2.0 worldwide by mid-March, as reported by The Information. However, these plans are now being delayed as its engineers and legal counsel work to mitigate potential future legal complications.

ByteDance did not immediately respond to TechCrunch's request for comment regarding this development.
