Amazon has implemented significant price adjustments across several of its popular device lines, including Echos, Kindles, Fire TVs, and Eeros. These increases, which can be as high as 60 percent, are attributed by the tech giant to substantial rises in memory and storage component costs, a development initially reported by Fortune.
Notably, some of Amazon's most affordable offerings have experienced the steepest hikes. The Echo Dot smart speaker, for instance, saw its price surge from $49.99 to $79.99. Similarly, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is now priced at $84.99, marking an increase of over 40 percent, while the entry-level Kindle has climbed to $149.99, representing a nearly 37 percent rise.
Addressing these changes in a statement to The Verge, Kristy Schmidt, Senior Communications Manager for Amazon’s Devices & Services division, explained, “The consumer electronics industry is facing significant increases in memory and storage component costs. After absorbing these increases for as long as we could, we recently adjusted pricing across our product lines. Our approach has always been to offer great products at accessible prices, and that commitment hasn’t changed.”
Beyond the entry-level devices, Amazon's flagship Echo Dot Max smart speaker, introduced last year, has also seen its price increase from $99.99 to $119.99. This trend aligns with moves by competitors; Apple, for example, raised the price of its comparable HomePod Mini from $99.99 to $129 earlier this summer, also citing escalating costs. In contrast, the Google Home Speaker currently maintains its $99.99 price point.
However, not all Amazon hardware has been impacted by these adjustments. Products such as its Ring cameras and video doorbells, along with the higher-end Echo Studio smart speaker, which retails for $219.99, appear to be exempt from the current price revisions.
