What is Keebye?
Keebye is push-to-talk voice dictation for macOS. Hold Right Cmd, say the thing, release, and the text lands in whichever app has focus. Tap the key once instead of holding for a longer dictation, and press Esc to cancel. It inserts by pasting or by synthetic typing with terminal-aware chunking, which means it also works inside iTerm2 and Warp, over SSH, inside tmux, and on non-QWERTY layouts. It deliberately refuses to type into secure password fields.
Speech-to-text runs entirely on your Mac. The default Parakeet engine is English-tuned and fast; opt into the multilingual Canary engine for 25 languages, or use Apple's native engine in your system language. Fillers, false starts and doubled words are stripped by deterministic rules, with an optional polish pass that runs a local LLM, also on-device. Turn cleanup off and you get every word verbatim. A custom dictionary teaches Keebye your product names and acronyms once, and gets them right in every transcript after that.
Once a model is downloaded, transcription works with no internet connection at all. The network is used only to fetch models, check for updates and confirm your plan, never to send audio. There is no telemetry, and history is kept on disk as text only, auto-deleting after 30 days.
