The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) is set to offer counsel on critical areas including artificial intelligence, the economy, education, and national and homeland security.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the initial four members appointed to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) will include prominent tech leaders: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
This panel, tasked with providing input on AI policy, is set to commence with 13 members, with the potential to expand to 24. It will be co-chaired by David Sacks, designated as Trump’s AI and crypto czar, and Michael Kratsios, a White House tech advisor.
As detailed in the White House’s January announcement regarding the panel, PCAST's mandate is to “advise the President on matters involving science, technology, education, and innovation policy.” Furthermore, the Council is charged with providing the President with “scientific and technical information that is needed to inform public policy relating to the American economy, the American worker, national and homeland security, and other topics.”
While Trump established a comparable advisory body during his initial term, it featured fewer tech industry chief executives. The current panel's initial four appointees, particularly Zuckerberg and Huang, possess extensive connections within the artificial intelligence sector, an area where Trump has recently advocated for preventing state-level regulation.
Both Zuckerberg and Ellison share a notable history with the Trump administration. Meta, currently embroiled in a legal dispute concerning child safety on its platforms, has previously made donations to Trump. Earlier this year, Ellison’s Oracle played a pivotal role in Trump’s agreement to divest TikTok. Additionally, Zuckerberg and Sergey Brin were both present at Trump’s 2025 inauguration.
