Zoom has announced that its AI-powered avatars, designed to represent users in virtual meetings, will launch later this month. This revelation, made on Tuesday, accompanied a suite of other forthcoming tools and services. Among the significant introductions are Zoom's proprietary AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets applications, an intuitive AI agent builder for non-technical users, and an integrated voice translator for meetings.
These AI-enhanced productivity applications are slated for a preview release in the spring, the company confirmed.
The AI avatars, initially unveiled last year, are the highly anticipated photorealistic representations capable of mirroring a user's appearance, expressions, and subtle lip and eye movements. Zoom states that these avatars, conceived to simulate user presence when individuals are not prepared for live camera interaction, will function seamlessly within online meetings and its asynchronous video messaging platform.
In conjunction with the AI avatars, Zoom is also implementing deepfake detection technology for meetings, designed to notify participants of potential audio or video impersonation attempts.

The employee communication application, Workvivo, will similarly be enhanced with this AI assistant. This intelligent assistant boasts connectivity with various platforms, including Slack, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Gmail, Outlook, Asana, and Jira, enabling users to query diverse knowledge bases effortlessly.
Zoom is operating within a competitive landscape, as numerous entities are also developing AI-first office software. Established players such as Canva and emerging startups like Context are pursuing similar innovations. Salesforce-owned Slack, for instance, has actively been incorporating additional AI functionalities into its team communication applications.
Responding to the increasing demand for agentic workflows, Zoom is enabling users to construct custom agents through natural language prompts, functional across various interfaces. Once created, these agents can be invoked directly within chat conversations to execute specific tasks.
Developers will also benefit from Zoom's provision of its speech, vision, and language intelligence APIs, offering flexible deployment options either on-premises or in the cloud.
Additionally, the company is upgrading its chat experience, leveraging AI to highlight crucial insights and generate concise thread summaries.
To complement these advancements, Zoom intends to standardize its design across all platforms—desktop, mobile, and web—to facilitate more seamless access to AI functionalities such as note-taking, meeting question generation, and transcriptions.
