YouTube Launches AI Tool to Generate Free Background Music
Originally reported bytheverge
YouTube is introducing a new AI tool that generates instrumental music tracks for creators to use in their videos without the risk of copyright issues. The feature, called "Music Assistant," is part of the Creator Music beta and allows users to input prompts such as "Give me uplifting and motivational music for a workout montage." The tool then generates a variety of tracks, which users can review and download to incorporate into their video edits. The Music Assistant feature is being gradually rolled out to creators with access to the Creator Music beta. This new AI tool offers a free, easy way for content creators to find background music that fits their video content without worrying about licensing restrictions. YouTube is one of several companies exploring AI-driven music tools. Stability AI, Meta’s AudioCraft, and MusicGen models also offer similar AI-generated background audio, allowing creators to synthesize music through text prompts. YouTube has previously tested other AI-based music features, including a music remixer for its Shorts platform and the Dream Track feature, which uses Lyria, a DeepMind-powered system, to convert hummed songs into tracks in the style of famous artists like T-Pain. With Music Assistant, YouTube expands its use of AI in the music creation process, offering even more flexibility and options for video creators.
