Yelp aims for its enhanced AI chatbot to empower users to ‘search less and do more.’
Yelp is significantly upgrading its AI chatbot assistant, transforming the platform into a comprehensive digital concierge. This suite of new features is specifically designed to facilitate 'getting things done' for users. This latest enhancement is among several AI-centric updates from the company in recent months, aligning with a wider industry trend focused on increasing AI's practical utility for consumers and leveraging vast amounts of user-generated data to gain a competitive advantage.
According to a company press release, the Yelp Assistant chatbot is set to become 'the center of the app experience.' It will possess the capability to answer queries, provide recommendations, and even manage bookings all within a single conversational flow. Users will access the bot via a new dedicated 'Assistant' tab, available across every category on Yelp. This represents a substantial expansion from its initial launch in 2024, when it primarily served as a tool for connecting users with service professionals.
Further expanding its utility, the Assistant will integrate with various external applications. Users will be able to order takeout or delivery via popular services such as DoorDash and Grubhub, request price quotes from local professionals in sectors like auto and pet care, and schedule appointments with beauty, wellness, fitness, and healthcare providers through platforms like Vagaro and Zocdoc. Upcoming enhancements include support for Yelp Waitlist and integration with Calendly for streamlined appointment scheduling.
Craig Saldanha, Yelp’s chief product officer, characterized this update as the company’s “most significant AI product evolution yet.” He further noted that this development marks “only the beginning of a more conversational, personalized and action-oriented Yelp experience.”
