xAI’s Grok Chatbot Now Supports Real-Time Vision on iOS
Originally reported bytechcrunch
xAI has introduced a new feature called Grok Vision, enabling its Grok chatbot to visually interpret the world through a smartphone camera. Available on the Grok app for iOS, this addition allows users to point their phone at objects such as products, documents, or signs and ask the chatbot questions about what they are viewing. This real-time vision capability aligns Grok with similar features already offered by competitors like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The company demonstrated how Grok’s voice mode integrates with camera access, allowing users to simply ask, “What am I looking at?” while pointing the device’s camera at an item. The chatbot can then analyze the scene and provide relevant information or explanations based on what it detects. Currently, this feature is exclusive to iOS users, with no immediate availability on the Android version of the app. Alongside Grok Vision, xAI has rolled out several other enhancements designed to improve user interaction. These include multilingual audio support, which enables Grok to communicate in various languages such as Spanish, French, Turkish, Japanese, and Hindi. This feature helps make the chatbot accessible to a wider global audience, allowing users to interact with Grok in their preferred language. Additionally, Grok’s voice mode now supports real-time search functionality, giving users the ability to access information quickly and efficiently during conversations. However, Android users can only access the multilingual audio and live search features if they subscribe to the company’s premium SuperGrok plan, which costs $30 per month. These updates are part of xAI’s ongoing efforts to expand Grok’s capabilities. Earlier in the month, the company introduced a memory feature that enables the chatbot to recall past conversations, enhancing personalization and continuity in user interactions.
