Visa has announced a strategic, undisclosed investment in the artificial intelligence (AI) coding platform Replit. The two companies are actively exploring avenues to integrate Visa's payment products directly into Replit, aiming to enable developers—and the AI agents they create—to securely accept payments from customers without needing to leave the platform environment.
Furthermore, Visa revealed that over 1,000 of its employees are already leveraging Replit for prototyping and development initiatives. As part of this evolving partnership, both entities are investigating how Replit developers can utilize Visa's advanced suite for AI-powered payments, known as Visa Intelligent Commerce. They are also examining the application of Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol, a system designed to allow AI agents to securely authenticate themselves by sharing critical information such as their intent and relevant customer details, thereby ensuring the verification and trustworthiness of payments initiated by agents. It is important to note that all these projects are currently in an exploratory phase, and neither company has formally announced any joint products.
This investment underscores a broader industry push to establish robust infrastructure for "agentic payments," a future where AI agents autonomously conduct transactions on behalf of users. Beyond Replit and Visa, several other prominent technology companies are rapidly advancing in this domain. For instance, the retail investing platform Robinhood is encouraging users to employ agents for trading, while Google is developing capabilities for users to deploy agents for shopping activities.
“Over the last few months, our enterprise traction has been growing, and Visa coming on board underscores our mission of making coding available to anyone in a secure and robust manner,” stated Amjad Masad, CEO and founder of Replit, emphasizing the significance of the partnership.
In parallel, Replit is introducing self-serve enterprise access, empowering companies to execute contracts valued up to $200,000 without requiring direct interaction with a salesperson. This new tier provides comprehensive enterprise-grade compliance and control features, including Single Sign-On (SSO)—a system facilitating access to multiple tools with one set of credentials—along with audit logs and advanced permission management.
“Our continued customer and partner additions in the enterprise, coupled with our new self-serve program, bring us closer to a world where any team can go from idea to production-ready software quickly and securely,” Masad added, highlighting the platform's commitment to streamlined development.
The increasing demand for innovative "vibe-coding" platforms has led to a rapid surge in the valuations of startups like Replit, Cursor, and Lovable, attracting significant investor interest. Replit, in particular, reached a $3 billion valuation in September of last year. Just six months later, in March, the company successfully raised $400 million in a Series D funding round led by Georgian Partners, achieving a remarkable $9 billion valuation—effectively tripling its value in under half a year.
During TechCrunch’s StrictlyVC event in San Francisco in May, Masad shared insights into Replit's impressive customer retention. He noted that the platform experiences very low churn, indicating strong customer loyalty.
“Churn is very, very low, and net retention is incredibly high — 300% in some cases. What we actually hear from customers is that when engineers get nervous and try to rebuild an app into their own stack, they often make it worse. Once enterprises get comfortable with the full Replit stack — especially when we set up a single-tenant environment for them — they keep the apps on Replit,” Masad elaborated, underscoring the platform's sticky nature and the perceived challenges of migrating away from its comprehensive ecosystem.
