Twitch has introduced a new setting allowing users to prevent their channel content from being utilized in the training of Amazon's generative AI models. This crucial update offers streamers greater control over how their digital creations are employed by the tech giant.

This opt-out functionality specifically ensures that "your streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures and text on your channel" will be excluded from "future training" of any Amazon AI model designed to "generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video," as detailed on a Twitch support page.

It's important to note that opting out of generative AI training will not disable other "AI-supported" features, such as automated captions or safety tools, which will continue to operate normally. Furthermore, Twitch clarifies that if a user engages in chat on another streamer's channel, the content of that chat will be subject to the host streamer's opt-out preferences for AI training.

The "Training for Generative AI" toggle can be found within Twitch's settings, under the Security and Privacy tab. Initial observations indicate this setting was enabled by default, prompting an inquiry to Amazon for confirmation on its standard configuration.

Amazon's comprehensive description for the toggle states: "Allow your channel content to train generative AI content models at Amazon. Turning this off does not opt you out of Twitch and Amazon using your channel content for other purposes described in the Twitch Privacy Notice, including using AI-supported Twitch features that benefit the community by facilitating streamer growth and monetization (such as real-time sponsorship campaign assistance), viewer discovery (such as recommendations), and community safety (such as AutoMod)." This clarifies that while generative AI training can be opted out of, other data usage practices, including those for community benefit and platform enhancement, remain in effect.
