President Donald Trump has formally announced the creation of a new "Super Intelligence Force," an initiative he confirmed will be headed by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton and other administration officials.

In a Sunday morning post on his Truth Social platform, Trump outlined the force's mission, stating, "The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence, which many say is bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet, and will protect the interests, and improve the lives, of all Americans."

This move follows a September announcement where Trump dismissed the prevailing AI safety debate as a "hoax created by 'Radical Left Dumocrats,'" yet he pledged to establish an AI Force and appoint an "AI czar" described as a position open only to "High I.Q. individuals."

Since that time, Trump signed an executive order aiming to rebrand AI as "super intelligence," a terminology that tech executives seemingly adopted while signing a non-binding safety pledge at the White House this week, though the document included a notable typo.

Consequently, the task force was named to align with this branding. Reports indicate Jay Clayton will chair the Super Intelligence Force, acting as the new AI/SI czar, alongside Vice Chairs Andrew Ferguson (FTC Chair), Emil Michael (Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering), and Scott Kupor (Office of Personnel Management Director).

The group is reportedly granted 120 days to deliver a report analyzing the risks and opportunities of AI. Clayton previously argued that it would be irresponsible for the U.S. to retreat from AI development while China advances, a stance he reiterated to the Wall Street Journal by noting that one of the greatest risks is simply "not being first."

The task force’s charter reportedly outlines a mandate to "develop plans for responding to SI-enabled threats to our society, while preventing overregulation and regulatory capture that would stifle innovation and competition."
