TikTok is introducing an innovative opt-in tool designed to empower creators by scanning for and allowing them to report unauthorized AI-generated likenesses, often referred to as deepfakes. This significant development, initially brought to light by social media consultant Matt Navarra, has been confirmed by TikTok US spokesperson Zachary Kizer to The Verge, stating that the feature is currently being piloted with a select group of US creators. To participate in this test and utilize the new safeguarding feature, creators must first undergo a robust identity verification process facilitated by Jumio, a third-party service. This involves a real-time selfie scan coupled with an ID check. Once identity verification is complete, TikTok's system will actively scan for AI-generated content that may be leveraging the creator's likeness without permission.
