Tesla has announced the expansion of its autonomous robotaxi service into Dallas and Houston, as revealed through a recent social media update from the company.
The announcement, conveyed succinctly with the phrase “Robotaxi is now rolling out in Dallas & Houston 🤠,” was accompanied by a 14-second video. This footage depicted Tesla vehicles operating fully autonomously, notably without any human monitors or drivers present in the front seating area.
With this expansion, Tesla's robotaxi service is now available in three Texas cities. The initial launch occurred in Austin last year, where the company also began offering rides without safety drivers in January 2026. Furthermore, a February regulatory filing indicated that Tesla's Austin robotaxis have been implicated in 14 incidents since their inception.
Separately, Tesla maintains a more restricted ride-hailing service in the San Francisco Bay Area, which operates with human drivers.
Initial deployment in these new markets appears to be modest; crowdsourced data from the Robotaxi Tracker website currently reports only a single active vehicle in both Dallas and Houston, a notable contrast to the 46 vehicles documented in Austin.
