Surreal Elderhood: Exploring OpenAI’s Sora Text-to-Video Innovation

Eugenio Marogiu, a professional photographer, started an ambitious artistic project called “Surreal Elderhood,” created using the OpenAI text-to-video model Sora. Marongiu is an alpha tester for the unreleased model and uses its capabilities to craft a stunning and engaging piece that combines elements of absurdity with a striking sense of realism.  The Sora Model is still in its early stages, and it has drawn attention for being both difficult and promising to learn. However, early users, including Marongiu, have determined that the new model offers impressive features but cannot yet be relied on for producing polished final outputs.  Except for these limitations, the creative opportunities provided by Sora are controversial, but Marongiu views them as a valuable tool for experimenting with new ways of artistic expression.  Marongiu shared that Sora has significantly streamlined his creative workflow. The tool helped him progress through his typical image-based creation process, which involves creating images and then animating them.  He added, “ While Creating my new project, Sora, I am finally able to understand text-to-video generation.” In addition to his statement, he said that the conceptualization, testing, and editing phases are time-consuming, and overall, it took two days to complete.
