Spotify announced on Thursday a significant expansion of its interactive AI DJ feature, which now supports four additional languages: French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese. Previously, this innovative functionality, enabling users to request songs and receive AI-powered spoken commentary, was exclusively available in English and Spanish.
To enhance the localized experience, the company has introduced distinct names and personalities for the AI DJs tailored to their respective languages, including Maia, Ben, Alex, and Dani.
In addition to the linguistic expansion, Spotify is extending the feature's availability to several new markets, including Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, and Switzerland. This strategic rollout makes the AI DJ accessible in over 75 countries worldwide.
The AI DJ's initial version primarily focused on providing commentary alongside personalized track playback. However, Spotify has dedicated considerable effort over the past few years to make the feature more interactive. A notable update in May 2025 empowered users to engage in conversational chats with the AI DJ, allowing them to request changes in mood or genre. The company further integrated the ability to prompt the AI DJ to play specific tracks, drawing parallels to the conversational capabilities found in advanced AI models like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
These developments underscore Spotify's ongoing commitment to integrating advanced AI features into its platform, such as the ability to create custom playlists of songs or podcasts simply by describing the desired content.
