While digital notetaking tools such as Read AI, Fireflies.ai, Fathom, and Granola excel at capturing and transcribing online meetings, a growing demand exists for physical recording devices that offer greater versatility for in-person interactions. These specialized physical notetakers leverage artificial intelligence to transcribe audio, generate concise summaries, and identify actionable items from discussions.

These innovative devices come in various form factors, including wearable options like pins or pendants equipped with dedicated microphones, and compact credit card-sized units. The latter often pair with mobile applications to facilitate transcription and extract key insights using AI. A notable feature in some of these devices is the inclusion of real-time translation capabilities.

Below is an overview of some prominent physical AI notetakers and transcription solutions currently available.

The Plaud Note, a credit card-sized notetaker, first emerged in 2023. It has since introduced an advanced, AI-powered Pro version that features a small display, four microphones, and an audio recording range of three to five meters. This enhanced model also offers the flexibility to switch between capturing in-person conversations and recording calls.

The Plaud Note is priced at $159, with its Pro counterpart costing $179. Both devices include a complimentary allowance of 300 minutes of transcription each month.

Mobvoi's rectangular TicNote is available for $159 and provides users with 600 free transcription minutes. The company highlights the device's ability to deliver real-time transcription and translation, supporting over 120 languages. Equipped with three microphones, the TicNote boasts an impressive 25 hours of continuous recording on a single charge.

Beyond its core recording capabilities, the TicNote offers intelligent software features, including automatic highlight extraction and the capacity to generate audio clips or condensed podcast-style summaries of conversations.

Comulytic enters the hardware AI notetaker market with its Note Pro device, priced at $159. Its key differentiator is the absence of an ongoing subscription requirement for basic transcription, allowing for unlimited transcription minutes simply with the device purchase.

This device stands out for its robust battery performance, capable of recording up to 45 hours of audio continuously on a single charge, and offering more than 100 days of standby time.

For users seeking advanced functionalities, Comulytic provides an optional plan at $15 per month or $119 annually. This subscription unlocks features such as instant AI summaries, an unlimited array of summary templates, an action item list, and unrestricted interaction with an AI assistant.

Plaud also offers the NotePin and NotePin S, which are more compact and pocket-friendly iterations of their larger Note and Note Pro devices. The NotePin boasts a versatile design, allowing it to be worn as a wristband or pendant, clipped onto a bag, or magnetically attached to clothing. The lanyard and wristband accessories are exclusive to the NotePin S model.

Both NotePin devices incorporate two microphones and can record approximately 20 hours of continuous audio on a single charge. The NotePin S further enhances usability with a physical button for starting/stopping recordings and capturing highlights.

Pricing for these wearable notetakers is consistent with their credit card-shaped counterparts: the NotePin is $159, and the NotePin S is $179.

The Omi pendant offers a more budget-conscious alternative at $89. Its lower price point is attributed to its reliance on a smartphone connection and the absence of onboard memory. This pendant features two microphones and provides 10 to 14 hours of operation per charge.

While Omi provides its dedicated application, the device's open-source hardware and software allow users to utilize other compatible apps. This open ecosystem has also led to the development of various connectors and applications by its user community.

Viaim's earbuds provide on-call transcription, with additional recording capabilities housed within their charging case. Priced at $200, these earbuds are advertised to transcribe audio in up to 78 languages in real time. The accompanying Viaim app also intelligently highlights key points within the transcriptions.

Anker presents the Soundcore Workpin, a coin-sized AI notetaker complemented by a puck-shaped battery pack. This $159 device can record for eight hours continuously, extending to 32 hours when the pin is docked in its case, according to Anker.

Anker states that the device offers a five-meter recording range. Users receive 300 minutes of free transcription each month with the Workpin.

Pocket introduces another credit card-style puck that conveniently adheres to the back of your smartphone for note-taking. While listed at $199, the gadget is frequently available at a discounted price. Users can access core transcription features without requiring an additional subscription, and the device supports over 120 languages.

Weighing 52 grams, the Pocket features 64GB of on-device memory and can operate for up to four days on a single charge. It is equipped with two microphones, capable of capturing audio from a range of 15 meters.

An optional $19.99 per month subscription expands the Pocket's capabilities, offering unlimited cloud storage, access to over 100 templates for diverse summary styles, AI-powered speaker labeling, and home screen widgets.
