Slack has unveiled "Slack Code," a new initiative designed to provide a dedicated, open environment for teams to seamlessly collaborate with AI agents.

This innovative offering introduces specialized channels where development teams can engage in real-time coding alongside AI agents, eliminating the need to toggle between disparate tools and conversations. The launch of Slack Code includes features such as open, project-specific code channels with dedicated user tabs, capabilities to compare coding changes, and the option to preview HTML output directly within Slack before a project is deployed.

Highlighting the streamlined workflow, Slack stated in its press release, "With Slack Code, when you have an idea or need to build a new feature, update a web page, or fix a bug, you simply tag in a coding agent like Anthropic’s Claude or Cognition’s Devin, and that agent then spins up a code channel to tackle the task." The company further elaborated on the collaborative transparency, explaining that "There, everyone has full visibility to the conversation, can audit code diffs, get live previews of the agent’s output, give feedback, and approve the work before it ships."

Beyond active development, these coding channels are engineered to automatically archive upon the successful completion of their assigned tasks, simultaneously generating an indelible audit log for comprehensive record-keeping. Slack is positioning this functionality as an intuitive method for fostering collaborative partnerships with AI agents, treating them "like teammates"—a strategic approach also being championed by SpaceXAI with its new Grok Bot agents.

Slack Code is immediately accessible, effective today, across all Slack plans. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with the array of AI agents available on Slack’s marketplace, with Slack confirming that agents from its founding partners—including Claude Code, Devin, Vercel Agent, and GitHub Copilot—will offer robust compatibility within these new code channels.
