Elon Musk, Marc Benioff, Jensen Huang, and now Satya Nadella have all capitulated to President Donald Trump’s attempt to rebrand artificial intelligence as “super intelligence.”
When President Donald Trump announced his plans to rebrand artificial intelligence as “super intelligence,” skepticism was understandable. While the general public largely continues to use the term AI, some of Silicon Valley’s most powerful figures are falling in line to support the administration's desired rebrand.
Elon Musk’s quick adoption of the new term, promising to rename SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, was unsurprising. Similarly, hours after President Trump declared that using “Artificial Intelligence” instead of “Super Intelligence” labeled one as an enemy, Marc Benioff announced that Salesforce would rename its AI division to SIForce. This rapid capitulation reflects the pressure tech leaders feel to align with the administration.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang attended the summit where the executive order mandating government agencies use the term “super intelligence” was unveiled. Huang has aligned himself with Trump's perspective, claiming the dangers of AI are overblown. Consequently, Nvidia’s $1 billion commitment to scientific advancement includes “super intelligence research,” a move likely driven by the need to avoid antagonizing the administration.
The most recent to fall in line is Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, who attended the same summit as Huang alongside other tech leaders like Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai. In a recent post advocating for an “emergency brake” on AI, Nadella consistently used the term “super intelligence” rather than the traditional label.
Throughout Trump’s second term, Silicon Valley has repeatedly attempted to ingratiate itself with the administration, contrasting with the more contentious relationship it had during his first term.
