Entire, a new venture spearheaded by former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke, has successfully closed the largest seed funding round ever for a developer tool startup, according to its lead investor, Felicis. The company secured an impressive $60 million, valuing the startup at $300 million.

Entire is dedicated to empowering developers by providing an open-source tool designed to streamline the management of code generated by artificial intelligence agents.

The technological foundation of Entire is built upon three core components. The first is a git-compatible database, engineered to unify and consolidate AI-produced code. Git, widely adopted by enterprises and open-source platforms like GitHub and GitLab, is a robust distributed version control system.

The second key component is dubbed a "universal semantic reasoning layer," which facilitates seamless collaboration among multiple AI agents. Completing the trio is an AI-native user interface, meticulously crafted to optimize collaboration between AI agents and human developers.

Entire's initial product release is an open-source tool named Checkpoints. This innovative solution automatically associates every piece of software submitted by an AI agent for a project with its complete contextual data, including the original prompts and transcripts. This functionality aims to enable human developers to efficiently review, search, and gain insights into the AI's decision-making process.

The company endeavors to equip developers with better tools to navigate the substantial volumes of software being generated by AI coding agents. This is particularly crucial for popular open-source projects, which are increasingly burdened by a deluge of suggested code contributions that often amount to "AI slop"—poorly designed or potentially unusable code.

In a press release, Dohmke articulated the current landscape: "We are living through an agent boom, and now massive volumes of code are being generated faster than any human could reasonably understand. The truth is, our manual system of software production — from issues, to git repositories, to pull requests, to deployment — was never designed for the era of AI in the first place."

Dohmke previously served as CEO of Microsoft’s GitHub for four years, departing in August 2025 to establish his new startup, as he announced on X at the time. During his tenure at GitHub, he played a pivotal role in overseeing the ascent of the widely popular coding agent, GitHub Copilot.

The significant seed round also saw participation from a distinguished group of investors including Madrona, M12, Basis Set, Harry Stebbings, Jerry Yang, and Datadog founder and CEO Olivier Pomel.
