Read AI, a prominent meeting notetaker, has officially launched an innovative AI-powered, email-based assistant named Ada. Unveiled on Thursday, Ada is designed to streamline users' daily workflows by managing schedules, addressing inquiries drawing from a company's knowledge base, and handling out-of-office email responses.
The company characterizes Ada as a "digital twin," capable of autonomously managing tasks around the clock. Read AI has confirmed that this advanced assistant will be accessible to all users. To initiate configuration, users simply need to send an email to "[email protected]" with the subject line or body text "Get me started."
Ada offers sophisticated meeting scheduling capabilities. When prompted to arrange a meeting, it automatically communicates your availability within the email thread to the other party. Should the proposed times be unsuitable, Ada intelligently offers alternative slots. While Ada integrates with your calendar via Read AI, it maintains strict confidentiality, never disclosing the specific nature of your meetings to external parties.
Furthermore, in ongoing email conversations, if a question arises, Ada can draft a preliminary response for your review and refinement before it is sent. The startup emphasizes that Ada is programmed not to share any sensitive information without explicit user permission, ensuring privacy and control.
Justin Farris, Read AI’s VP of Product, clarified that Ada’s sophisticated functionality does not rely on Model Context Protocols (MCPs), a technical standard for linking AI tools to external services. Instead, it constructs a comprehensive knowledge graph using meeting data and integrated services to provide highly contextual answers. Farris also indicated that Ada is slated to evolve towards proactive assistance, for instance, by prompting users to set up follow-up actions mentioned in meetings, complete with relevant contextual data.
“The way I describe our solution is that when you are bringing on a new employee, you train them. When you add Ada to your workflow and connect more services to give more context, it starts to ramp up and handle more tasks for you,” CEO David Shim shared with TechCrunch, illustrating Ada's learning and growth potential.
Currently, Ada operates exclusively via email, but Read AI has plans to expand its availability to popular communication platforms like Slack and Teams in the near future.
During a recent interview with TechCrunch at Web Summit Qatar, CEO David Shim revealed impressive growth figures for the company. Read AI currently boasts over 5 million monthly active users and aims to double this number to 10 million. He further noted approximately 50,000 new sign-ups daily, alongside a broader audience of 100,000 users who engage with Read AI's content, such as meeting summaries, without requiring an account.
The United States remains Read AI's largest market, though the company is experiencing robust international expansion. Despite 60% of its user base residing outside the U.S., revenue distribution between domestic and international markets is approximately equal.
The broader market for meeting notetakers is also seeing innovation aimed at extracting deeper insights and actionable intelligence. Last September, Granola introduced "recipes," which are repeatable prompts designed to surface specific knowledge from meeting data. Similarly, Quill, which recently emerged from stealth with a $6.5 million funding round this week, integrates with various tools like Linear, Notion, and CRMs to automate tasks, highlighting a growing trend in the sector.
