Meta has announced an impending increase in the prices of its virtual reality headsets, attributing the adjustment to the escalating cost of memory chips. Effective April 19, the Meta Quest 3S (128GB) will see its price rise by $50 to $349.99, while the Meta Quest 3S (256GB) will also increase by $50 to $449.99. The flagship Meta Quest 3 is slated for a more substantial $100 price hike, bringing its new cost to $599.99.

In an official blog post, Meta clarified the rationale behind this decision, stating, “We’re making this change because the cost of building high-performance VR hardware has risen significantly.” The company further elaborated on the broader market impact, noting, “The global surge in the price of critical components — specifically memory chips — is impacting almost every category of consumer electronics, including VR.” Meta emphasized that this pricing adjustment is essential “To keep delivering the quality of hardware, software, and support you expect from the Quest platform.”

The company confirmed that the revised pricing structure will also be applied to Meta Quest refurbished units. Conversely, all Meta Quest accessories are expected to maintain their current price points.

This strategic move places Meta among a growing list of technology companies that have recently increased hardware prices, directly responding to the persistent global RAM shortage. Other prominent industry players, including Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony, have undertaken similar adjustments.
