Prime Video Introduces AI Dubbing for Select Films and TV Series
Originally reported bytechcrunch
Prime Video is now testing AI-assisted dubbing for select movies and TV shows, aiming to make content accessible to a wider audience. The Amazon-owned streaming platform announced on Wednesday that it will introduce AI-assisted dubbing in English and Latin American Spanish. This new technology will work alongside human localization experts to ensure high-quality dubbing. Initially, the AI dubbing feature will be applied to 12 titles that previously lacked dubbed versions. Among these are the Spanish animated film El Cid: La Leyenda, the family-friendly drama Mi Mamá Lora, and the indie movie Long Lost. By integrating AI technology, Prime Video aims to streamline the localization process while maintaining accuracy and natural-sounding dialogue. AI-powered dubbing is becoming more common in the entertainment industry. Streaming platforms are increasingly adopting AI to make content available in multiple languages without the high costs of traditional dubbing methods.  Companies like Deepdub, which provides AI dubbing services, already work with major streaming services such as Paramount+. YouTube has also invested in AI dubbing, recently launching an auto-dubbing feature that helps creators translate their videos into different languages. Prime Video has previously implemented AI-powered features to enhance user experience. Its “X-Ray Recaps” provide season and episode summaries, while “Dialogue Boost” improves audio clarity for difficult-to-hear conversations. With the introduction of AI dubbing, Prime Video continues to explore ways to enhance content accessibility and improve user engagement. This latest test highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry. While AI dubbing offers efficiency and cost savings, Prime Video emphasizes that human experts will remain involved to ensure the final product meets quality standards. If the test proves successful, AI dubbing could expand to more titles, making diverse content accessible to a broader audience worldwide.
