The company has already partnered with ElevenLabs to convert written content into audio series, reducing production time by 5x and cutting costs by 30x.  CEO Rohan Nayak sees AI as key to scaling the platform quickly, especially in adapting content for different regions and cultures. Pocket FM’s AI tools go beyond simple translation—they are designed to maintain cultural nuances, making stories relatable for various audiences. Another exciting development is the creation of a writing assistant powered by AI. This tool helps writers brainstorm new ideas and alternative plotlines and provides insights into what works on the platform.  It’s like giving a solo writer the power of a full writer's room. Nayak envisions this tool as a way to empower writers while maintaining creative control. Despite the promising results, Pocket FM faces challenges. The risk of AI creating low-quality content is a concern. The company is careful to ensure that the speed and scale of AI do not compromise the authenticity of the content. In the past year, Pocket FM has used AI to produce over 40,000 series, generating $3 million in revenue and contributing to a total of $127 million in revenue for FY 2024. The company is also building a “blockbuster engine” to identify hit shows based on user preferences and platform data. With backing from investors like Lightspeed Ventures and Tencent, Pocket FM is positioning itself to compete with major players like Audible and Kuku FM while continuing to innovate with AI.
