Pinterest on Tuesday unveiled a new feature utilizing artificial intelligence to execute actions on saved inspiration from beauty-related Pins, such as hair and nail concepts, converting them into practical plans that users can bring to their next salon appointment.
Dubbed "Beauty Guides," this innovation is powered by the company's visual intelligence and generative AI technology known as Pinterest Intelligence, which translates visual Pins into industry-specific terminology and phrases that everyday users might not know, including concepts like "balayage," "root melt," or "almond nails."
This feature represents a practical application of AI for daily life, fitting seamlessly into a routine many people already practice: presenting a photo of their desired look to a stylist. While this is helpful, having precise vocabulary during consultations allows users to clearly communicate which elements of the style they wish to modify or enhance.
Furthermore, these guides provide essential planning data, such as estimated duration for each procedure and associated costs. (For instance, services like balayage can cost hundreds of dollars, making this upfront financial information particularly valuable.)
To access these action guides, users simply tap the "Get the Guide" button within the app. The resulting guide offers specific instructions on what to request to achieve the look, details on the time required, price ranges, and maintenance requirements, such as how frequently trims, toning, or touch-ups are needed.
At its initial launch, this functionality will be available across Pins covering hairstyle, color, nail shape, and finish.
