Smart feeders have become a highly saturated market in pet technology, prompting companies to innovate with AI cameras and health tracking to enhance devices that previously only dispensed food on a timer. Having previously enjoyed testing Petlibro’s wet food dispenser, I was eager to try their newest automatic feeder lineup: the Granary 2 series, which is specifically engineered for dry food.

My experience was highly positive. Building upon the previous Granary line, the Granary 2 series is designed to give pet owners a comprehensive understanding of their pets' actual consumption, including quantity, eating duration, and behavioral trends over time.

The series comprises four models priced between $129.99 and $249.99. The entry-level Granary 2 offers app-controlled feeding, precise portioning, and intake tracking. The $189.99 Granary 2 Vision, the unit used for this review, incorporates an AI-powered camera capable of identifying up to 10 cats and tracking individual eating habits.

The $199.99 Duo caters to multi-pet households with separate dispensing chutes and bowls, while the top-tier Granary 2 X ($249.99) uses AI recognition to provide individualized portioning for pets with specific dietary requirements.

Currently, every model in the Granary 2 series is discounted on Amazon as part of Prime Deal Days, which runs until October 7.

A significant upgrade across the series is the inclusion of a built-in scale. This feature measures the food in the tray, allowing the device to track not only dispensed amounts but also remaining quantities. This provides a much more accurate estimate of actual consumption, as traditional feeders can confirm food was released but not whether it was eaten.

The Granary 2 monitors intake, duration, frequency, and preferred times and speeds. Over time, the companion app compiles daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly views. This data helps owners detect subtle changes in appetite or routine, which could be crucial for health monitoring.

The feeder supports two main modes: Smart Refill Mode and Scheduled Mode. Smart Refill Mode offers grazing-friendly smaller portions throughout the day until the daily limit is reached. Scheduled Mode allows for traditional time-based control and manual dispensing.

The tested Vision model adds an AI camera that identifies the specific pet eating and links the meal to their profile. This is particularly beneficial for multi-pet homes where diet management is necessary. The feeder only dispenses food when the correct animal is recognized. The camera also features night vision and two-way audio, enabling remote check-ins and voice messages for calling pets to dinner.

Additional features include instant app alerts for low battery, food levels, and mechanical jams, providing peace of mind while away. The unit also contains a built-in rechargeable battery for use during power outages.

It is worth noting, however, that advanced features require subscriptions. Detailed health tracking necessitates a Petlibro Care subscription (starting at $59.99 annually), while cloud recording and playback require a Video Cloud plan ($119.99 annually).

Overall, this is one of the best feeders I have tested, though the closest affordable alternative is Pawsync's $79.99 model, which uses a scale to prevent overfeeding and underfeeding.
