Perplexity’s Latest Feature Turns Search into a Shopping Experience

Perplexity is transforming shopping with a new feature that lets users buy products directly through its AI search engine. This game-changing update simplifies the shopping experience, making it faster and more convenient for U.S.-based Pro subscribers. Pro subscribers in the U.S. can buy products directly through the search engine without leaving the platform. By clicking the “Buy with Pro” button, users can automatically order products using their saved shipping and billing information. Plus, all purchases come with free shipping.  For products that don’t support the “Buy with Pro” feature, Perplexity will redirect users to the retailer’s website to complete the purchase. Interestingly, Perplexity doesn’t take a kickback from sales made through this feature. According to a spokesperson, there’s “no commercial element” involved. Non-Pro users aren’t left out. They’ll still enjoy new AI shopping features, such as product cards displaying product images, prices, and AI-generated summaries of key features and reviews for U.S.-based searches. In addition, Perplexity is launching a new “Snap to Shop” tool, allowing users to take pictures of products and ask questions about them—much like Google Lens. This tool will initially be available to Pro users. Perplexity is also rolling out a merchant program aimed at helping sellers understand search and shopping trends. This program will increase the chances of their products being recommended by the search engine. With these new features, Perplexity is not just improving the shopping experience for users but also offering valuable tools for merchants looking to boost their visibility.
