Perplexity AI, an advanced "answer engine," is currently at the center of a proposed class action lawsuit. The legal filing alleges that Perplexity "effectively planted a bug" on users' computers by embedding tracking technologies from Meta and Google directly within its AI search platform, as initially reported by Ars Technica. Furthermore, the lawsuit contends that Perplexity's incognito mode provides no genuine privacy protection for its users.

The complaint specifically highlights the extent of these privacy concerns, stating: "Even paid users who turned on the “Incognito” feature still had their conversations shared with Meta and Google, along with their email addresses and other identifiers that allowed Meta and Google to personally identify them."
