Perplexity AI, the company known for reinventing search, has announced plans to launch its own AI-powered web browser called Comet. In a post on X on February 24, the firm revealed that the browser is coming soon and invited users to join a waitlist for early access.  A company spokesperson explained that, just as Perplexity transformed the search experience, they are now reimagining web browsing to offer smarter, more integrated online interactions. This announcement comes on the heels of impressive milestones for the company.  In October, Perplexity reported serving over 100 million queries per week, a figure that underscores its rapid growth and popularity among users. Further solidifying its position in the AI market, the startup closed a $500 million funding round in December, which tripled its valuation to $9 billion.  The funding round attracted notable investors such as SoftBank, Nvidia, and Jeff Bezos, reflecting strong confidence in Perplexity’s vision and long-term potential. Earlier, in November, the company introduced an AI-powered shopping assistant called Buy With Pro for U.S. consumers.  This tool, available exclusively to Perplexity Pro users, allows shoppers to research products and complete purchases with a one-click checkout option, streamlining the online shopping experience. Additionally, Perplexity has launched a visual search tool named Snap to Shop, which enables users to upload a photo and instantly find related products without needing any text input. These innovations are set against a backdrop of a changing digital landscape, where even as AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude gain popularity, traditional search giants like Google continue to see steady daily visits—about 2.7 billion globally, according to recent research. With the introduction of Comet and these new features, Perplexity aims to capture a larger share of the online market by delivering a more engaging and intuitive browsing experience, further driving the evolution of AI-powered tools in everyday life.
