Oura unveiled its inaugural proprietary AI model on Tuesday, designed to empower its AI chatbot, Oura Advisor, with personalized insights specifically for women's health. This model is engineered to address inquiries across the entire reproductive health continuum, from initial menstrual cycles through menopause.

This innovative model is being introduced within Oura Labs, an opt-in experimental feature hub integrated into the Oura application.

According to Oura, the new model leverages established medical standards, comprehensive research, and authoritative knowledge sources, all meticulously reviewed by its internal team of board-certified clinicians and women’s health specialists. Furthermore, it incorporates individual biometric signals and long-term trend data to provide highly personalized guidance.

Recognizing the growing reliance on AI chatbots for health-related guidance, encompassing topics from menstrual cycle variations to perimenopausal symptoms, Oura emphasizes the critical need for AI models specifically tailored to women's unique health requirements.

"This custom model represents a fundamental shift in our approach to responsibly deploying AI in health to effectively meet the diverse needs of our members," stated Ricky Bloomfield, MD, Oura's Chief Medical Officer, in an official press release. He further elaborated, "Women’s health is inherently complex—and frequently overlooked—making reliance on generic, one-size-fits-all systems inadequate. By meticulously designing a model exclusively for women and anchoring it in credible clinical science alongside real-world biometric data, we are establishing a new benchmark for how responsible intelligence should be developed and scaled across various health domains, uniting rigorous scientific principles with the invaluable lived, longitudinal data that gives Oura its distinctive strength."

The introduction of this new AI model for women’s health aligns with a revelation made last October by Oura's Chief Commercial Officer, Dorothy Kilroy, who informed TechCrunch that the company’s most rapidly expanding user demographic consists not of fitness enthusiasts, but rather women in their early twenties.

When a user poses a women’s health query to Oura Advisor, the chatbot activates the new model. This model then cross-references its extensive research and knowledge base while simultaneously analyzing the user’s pertinent biometric signals, including data on sleep, activity, menstrual cycle and pregnancy, stress levels, and other relevant metrics.

The company highlights that this new model is deliberately engineered to be non-dismissive, reassuring, and emotionally supportive. Crucially, it is not intended to function as a medical professional, and users are advised against utilizing the chatbot for obtaining diagnoses or treatment plans.

Oura assures that the model operates entirely within Oura-controlled infrastructure, with a strict policy that user conversations are never shared or sold.

Users wishing to access this advanced model can opt into Oura Labs by selecting the drop-down menu situated in the upper left corner of the Oura application.
