OpenAI is poised to unveil an extensively redesigned version of ChatGPT in the coming weeks, envisioned as a "super app" that will integrate advanced coding tools and AI agents, according to reports from the Financial Times.

The company's strategic objective is reportedly to enhance its competitive standing against Anthropic, particularly among enterprise clients, and to accelerate its path to profitability in anticipation of an initial public offering. This involves transforming ChatGPT into a primary conduit, guiding its free user base toward premium, paid offerings like the coding product Codex. A senior OpenAI employee, quoted by the FT, boldly declared, "Chat is dead."

Thibault Sottiaux, who oversees OpenAI’s core product and platform, elaborated on the company's vision, stating they are developing a product "where you have your own personal agent that is capable of helping you … across everything in your life, be it personally or at work."

This ambition may resonate with some, as discussions surrounding OpenAI's "super app" aspirations have been circulating since last year.

In March, The Wall Street Journal highlighted that these plans represent a substantial strategic realignment for the company. After introducing a range of standalone products in 2025, OpenAI executives are now signaling a departure from what they refer to as "side quests," including the video generator Sora.
