Contrary to earlier speculation suggesting a potential release this year, OpenAI's hardware devices will not be available to customers before March 2027. This revised timeline was disclosed by OpenAI Vice President Peter Welinder in a recent court filing.

The disclosure emerged during a trademark infringement lawsuit initiated by audio startup iyO. The company filed suit following OpenAI's acquisition of Jony Ive's design firm, io. Within the same filing, Welinder additionally confirmed that OpenAI has no intentions of utilizing the 'io' name for its upcoming hardware products.
