OpenAI has introduced a new suite of personal finance tools, now available in preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers across the U.S. Launched on Friday, these tools allow users to securely connect their financial accounts and pose a wide array of questions, from detailed spending analysis to strategic future financial planning.

The functionality is powered by a strategic partnership with Plaid, a leading financial connection service responsible for managing account linkages. Users can connect to an extensive network of over 12,000 financial institutions, including prominent names such as Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One. Once linked, users will gain access to a centralized dashboard presenting insights into their portfolio performance, spending habits, active subscriptions, and upcoming payments.

This product launch closely follows OpenAI's acquisition of the team behind personal finance startup Hiro in April. Hiro had previously garnered support from firms like Ribbit, General Catalyst, and Restive. OpenAI acknowledged that the Hiro team's specialized expertise in finance proved instrumental in the development of this product, though it did not specify if the entire feature was built by them.

OpenAI users can access the new tool by selecting "Get started" within the "Finances" option in the sidebar, or by typing "@Finances, connect my accounts" directly into a ChatGPT conversation. The chatbot will then guide them through the account linking process via Plaid. The company also announced plans to soon integrate support for Intuit, which is expected to enable more sophisticated analyses, such as the tax implications of a stock sale or the probability of credit card approval.

According to OpenAI, an impressive 200 million users already engage ChatGPT with financial questions every month. The company further highlighted that its latest GPT-5.5 model demonstrates enhanced capabilities in contextual reasoning, a crucial factor for providing accurate answers to complex finance-related inquiries. To ensure robust performance, OpenAI collaborated with finance experts to establish a benchmark for the model's continuous improvement in personal finance questions.

With this new financial tool integration, users can receive comprehensive answers to specific questions, such as "I feel like I’ve been spending more recently. Has anything changed?" or "Help me build a plan to be ready to buy a house in my area in the next 5 years."

Users maintain control over their data; they can navigate to Settings > Apps > Finances to remove connections to specific accounts. Upon disconnecting a service, all synced data will be automatically purged from ChatGPT within 30 days. Additionally, users have the ability to view and delete financial memories directly from the Finances page, ensuring privacy and data management.

OpenAI has confirmed that these personal finance tools are currently available to Pro users on both the ChatGPT web platform and iOS. The company stated its intention to refine the product based on feedback received from this initial Pro user group before making it accessible to Plus subscribers.
