OpenAI Set to Release Groundbreaking Orion AI Model This December
Originally reported bytheverge
OpenAI is set to launch its next advanced AI model, Orion, by December. This time, instead of a direct release, the company plans to first share it with trusted partners. This interesting approach builds excitement as they prepare to make it available to everyone through ChatGPT. According to The Verge, Microsoft engineers are preparing to host OpenAI's Orion on Azure as early as November. While Orion is noticed as the next version of GPT-4, still,  it’s still unclear if it will be called GPT-5.  An executive suggested that Orion could be up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4 and it will surely be different from the recent o1 reasoning model.  Additionally, OpenAI aims to combine its language models to eventually create artificial general intelligence (AGI). The o1 model, named Strawberry, generated data for training Orion, and researchers recently achieved their goal of completing that training. This groundbreaking launch of Orion comes at a key time for OpenAI, which recently raised a record $6.6 billion in funding and is switching to a for-profit model. Investors are also looking forward to seeing OpenAI keep delivering strong models to stay ahead in the advancing era of AI.
