OpenAI has announced its latest organizational restructuring, officially appointing company president Greg Brockman as the definitive lead for all product initiatives. In an internal memo, Brockman outlined the company's strategic intent to "invest in a single agentic platform."
This strategic pivot, detailed in a memo seen by The Verge, underscores OpenAI's commitment to an "all-in" approach for AI agents this year. As part of this, the company aims to "invest in a single agentic platform" by merging ChatGPT and Codex into a "one unified agentic experience for all."
To facilitate this ambitious vision, OpenAI is implementing a series of organizational chart adjustments, some of which build upon changes introduced last month. These prior adjustments followed AGI boss Fidji Simo's medical leave, leading to Brockman's initial appointment to oversee product strategy, while CSO Jason Kwon, CFO Sarah Friar, and CRO Denise Dresser assumed control of business operations.
These structural realignments are integral to OpenAI's broader strategic shift, which prioritizes key revenue drivers such as coding and enterprise solutions. This move aims to redirect resources away from less central "side quests," positioning the company for a potential IPO later this year and addressing investor demands for increased profitability.
With Simo's continued absence, Brockman's leadership over product strategy has been formalized and expanded to include the company's "scaling" arm. His mandate will be executed through four distinct pillars: The first, Core Product and Platform, will be headed by Thibault Sottiaux, formerly OpenAI’s engineering lead for Codex. The second, Critical Enterprise Industries, will be under the direction of ChatGPT head Nick Turley. The third pillar, focusing on Consumer sectors like health, commerce, and personal finance, will be led by Ashley Alexander, previously VP of healthcare products. Finally, the fourth pillar, encompassing Core Infrastructure, Ads, Data Science, and Growth, will be overseen by Vijaye Raji, OpenAI’s CTO of applications.
Brockman articulated the overarching objective in his memo: to "bring agents to ChatGPT scale, in order to give individuals and organizations significantly more value and utility from our products."
