CEO Sam Altman recently stated that OpenAI is prioritizing safety measures rather than proceeding with an initial public offering "guns blazing."
Bloomberg reports that a new funding round has valued OpenAI at $1.25 trillion, raising an additional $11 billion. This achievement places the company among the world’s most valuable, following a $122 billion investment in March that valued the company at $852 billion.
Bloomberg notes that OpenAI is still pursuing additional investments that could increase the total to $20 billion. The company had originally hoped to raise as much as $30 billion at a valuation of $1.4 trillion, a target that was adjusted due to falling tech stock prices and a change in public sentiment toward AI companies and data center projects following the midterms.
OpenAI's rival Anthropic filed its S-1 registration form for a public listing last week. Earlier this year, CEO Sam Altman said the company is holding off on its IPO until it can make more confident claims about its models' safety. He did not provide a specific timeline but remarked, "I think it’s also kind of bad for the world if OpenAI waits too long to go public."
