Data centers often face public opposition, but OpenAI is considering a name change to improve their perception.

According to Axios, OpenAI is preparing a "PR blitz" following the upcoming midterm elections, as Democrats appear poised to reclaim the House of Representatives and potentially the Senate.

Chief Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane stated that the midterms will serve as a "movie trailer for what you’re going to see in 2028," with AI expected to dominate the next presidential election.

To shape the AI debate, Lehane outlined several strategies, including establishing AI "speed limits," promoting AI as an empowering tool, advocating for U.S. leadership in global standards, and indeed rebranding data centers as "AI compute campuses."

Lehane characterized the ongoing discourse regarding data centers—highlighting how Amazon and Microsoft are abandoning NDAs in local negotiations—as a "good and healthy" dialogue.

He emphasized that communities must hold corporations accountable to ensure they derive genuine transformative benefits from such projects.
