OpenAI is reportedly working on its own social media platform, aiming to create a network similar to Elon Musk’s X. According to a new report by The Verge, the project is still in the early stages of development, with a working internal prototype that features a social feed centered around ChatGPT’s image generation capabilities.
While OpenAI has not confirmed whether the platform will launch as a separate app or be integrated into the existing ChatGPT app, the project highlights the company’s growing interest in expanding its reach beyond AI tools and into the social media space. If released, the platform would place OpenAI in direct competition with X, formerly known as Twitter, as well as Meta’s social networks like Facebook and Instagram.
One of the key advantages for OpenAI in developing such a network would be access to real-time data. Platforms like X and Meta already use their user data to improve their AI systems. By creating its own space for user interaction, OpenAI could gather similar data to enhance the performance and accuracy of its AI models.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has reportedly been seeking private feedback on the concept from external contacts, though it remains unclear how seriously the company is considering a public release.
