Mozilla is rolling out an update to Firefox's AI-powered browsing experience, enabling the system to pull data from open tabs to assist with online form completion.

This update introduces new capabilities to Smart Window, Firefox's AI assistant, which can now generate form fields based on information found in your currently open tabs. For instance, the browser can extract details from a LinkedIn profile or online portfolio to automate the entry of work history into a job application.

Users can activate this capability by selecting any form with at least four text fields. An option labeled “Fill from sources” will appear, displaying a list of all open tabs that can provide data. You can manually choose which tabs to use, and the browser will provide suggestions derived from that specific content. While currently limited to text fields, Mozilla intends to expand support to dropdown menus and PDFs. It is important to note that the data retrieved from source pages is processed by Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite to generate these suggestions.

In addition to form assistance, the update allows users to instruct Smart Window to monitor webpages for specific events such as sales, job postings, or other key updates. To configure this, users type the “/watch” command into the chat interface, describe the desired criteria, and specify the target pages. The browser will subsequently scan for changes daily or weekly, though monitoring only occurs when the application is running.

If a change matching the user's criteria is detected, Firefox will trigger a notification via the toolbar's Tasks button or desktop alerts. To conserve resources, the browser will automatically pause monitoring if no updates are found for 60 days and will cease watching entirely after 90 days.

Both new features are currently available to users on the Smart Window beta on desktop in the United States and Canada, with a wider global rollout expected in the coming months.
