Mistral Launches Impressive AI Models with Enhanced Le Chat Capabilities

French AI startup Mistral introduced significant updates to its product portfolio, which allow the platform to maintain its competitive advantage in the AI industry. The Le Chat chatbot platform includes a few updates, including the ability to search the web and cite sources in its responses, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.  In addition, it has a new Canvas feature designed to help users create and modify content such as documents, presentations, code, mockups, and data visualizations. This will allow users to edit and transform content directly without having to regenerate responses, which makes it versatile for different use cases.  It also includes features, versioning, and design previews to support a seamless workflow for users. The tool received an upgrade to process large PDF documents and images, which allows it to identify and summarize complex files, including those containing graphs and equations. Mistral has also integrated Black Forest Labs' Flux Pro model to enhance image generation capabilities.  Another major update is the introduction of AI "agents" that can automate workflows, such as scanning expense reports and processing invoices. These improvements, which are still in the beta phase, will remain accessible to users without any cost. Mistral has introduced new AI models, including Pixtral Large, which can process both text and images to support these new features. With 124 billion parameters, it outperforms or matches other leading models, such as Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro, and OpenAI’s GPT-4, on various multimodal benchmarks. This model is particularly adept at understanding documents, charts, and natural images, offering frontier-level image comprehension. Mistral introduced an improved version of Mistral Large, known as Mistral Large 24.11, which enhances long-context understanding, making it ideal for document analysis and task automation. Both Pixtral Large and Mistral Large 24.11 can be used under two different licenses: a more restrictive license for research purposes and an enterprise license for commercial development.
