The French artificial intelligence powerhouse, Mistral AI, has successfully secured $830 million in debt financing. This significant capital injection is designated for the development of a state-of-the-art data center near Paris, which will be powered by Nvidia's advanced chips, according to reports from Reuters and CNBC.

Mistral AI initially unveiled its intentions to construct a data center last year. At that time, CEO Arthur Mensch indicated that the company would explore various financing avenues by February 2025. The firm's current plans project the completion of the data center in Bruyeres-le-Chatel, with operations anticipated to commence in the second quarter of 2026, as reported by Reuters on Monday.

Mistral AI did not provide an immediate response to a request for confirmation regarding these details.

This development follows a recent announcement last month, where the company committed to a $1.4 billion investment in Sweden to bolster its AI infrastructure, including additional data centers. Mistral AI has set an ambitious target to deploy 200 megawatts of compute capacity across Europe by 2027.

Highlighting the strategic imperative behind these investments, CEO Arthur Mensch stated to CNBC, “Scaling our infrastructure in Europe is critical to empower our customers and to ensure AI innovation and autonomy remain at the heart of Europe. We will continue to invest in this area, given the surging and sustained demand from governments, enterprises, and research institutions seeking to build their own customized AI environment, rather than depend on third-party cloud providers.”

To date, Mistral AI has amassed over €2.8 billion ($3.1 billion) in total funding. Its impressive roster of investors includes prominent firms such as General Catalyst, ASML, a16z, Lightspeed, and DST Global, as detailed by data from Crunchbase.
