Microsoft Gears Up for OpenAI’s GPT-5 and Upcoming GPT-4.5
Microsoft readies servers for OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, with GPT-4.5 launching soon and GPT-5 bringing major upgrades by late May 2025.

Microsoft is gearing up to support OpenAI’s upcoming GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 models, expanding its server capacity to handle the new AI advancements. While GPT-4.5 is expected to launch as soon as next week, sources suggest that Microsoft is already planning for the release of GPT-5, anticipated in late May 2025.
GPT-4.5, codenamed Orion, will be OpenAI’s final non-chain-of-thought model and is set to outperform GPT-4 with enhanced capabilities. Although initially planned for release by the end of 2024, GPT-4.5 was delayed to early 2025, but it’s now on track for an imminent launch.
Looking ahead, GPT-5 is expected to bring more transformative changes. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has described it as a system that merges various technologies, pushing the boundaries of AI development.
One key feature of GPT-5 is the integration of OpenAI’s new o3 reasoning model, previously teased during the company’s holiday announcements. While OpenAI released a smaller version, o3-mini, last month, the company decided not to launch o3 as a standalone model and will fully incorporate it into GPT-5 instead.
This move supports OpenAI’s broader strategy of unifying its AI models to create a more streamlined and powerful system, potentially advancing toward artificial general intelligence (AGI). GPT-5 aims to simplify user interactions with ChatGPT by merging the o-series and GPT-series models, making it easier for users to choose the right model for their needs without confusion.
As Microsoft strengthens its partnership with OpenAI, it is positioning itself at the forefront of AI evolution, ensuring its infrastructure is ready for the growing demand and the next wave of advanced language models. With GPT-4.5 arriving soon and GPT-5 following in a few months, 2025 is set to be a significant year for AI development.
