Microsoft is upgrading its Copilot AI system with capabilities powered by "Hybrid Intelligence," granting the assistant the ability to access local files on a Windows PC and perform actions across the operating system.
This strategy relies on a mix of local and cloud AI models to enhance efficiency. During today's Windows and Surface event, Jacob Andreou, Microsoft's Executive Vice President of Copilot, demonstrated this functionality by asking the Autopilot tool to assist with filing taxes. Autopilot utilized Hybrid Intelligence to locate relevant documents across various folders, rename files, zip them into a folder, and draft an email to the accountant with the attachment.
Features powered by Hybrid Intelligence will be introduced to Copilot over the coming months, Andreou stated.
Microsoft also showcased a refreshed Windows search interface that permits users to execute quick actions from the search bar, such as activating dark mode, adjusting mic volume via an inline slider, or sending text messages. Pavan Davuluri, the head of Windows and Surface, indicated that this new experience will launch this fall on Windows 11 PCs.
