Meta is reportedly developing an AI-powered pendant, with plans to commence testing within the next year, according to an internal memo reviewed by The Information.
This forthcoming device is expected to build upon the technology developed by Limitless, an AI device startup Meta acquired in late 2025. Limitless previously created an AI pendant designed to be worn on a shirt or as a necklace, capable of recording conversations. At the time of the acquisition, Meta stated its intention to "accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables."
While earlier AI wearables have struggled to achieve widespread consumer adoption – potentially due to privacy concerns, ineffective marketing strategies, or a lack of perceived utility – companies like OpenAI continue to pursue innovation in this space.
The memo further indicates Meta's plans to expand its current lineup of AI glasses and introduce a new business subscription service titled "Wearables for Work." Through these various planned devices, Meta evidently hopes to reverse the financial challenges faced by its hardware-focused Reality Labs division, which reported a significant $4 billion loss in the first quarter of this year.
TechCrunch has reached out to Meta for official comment regarding these developments.
